How do I become a ref?
The first step in becoming an On-ice Official is to contact your local association. They would be able to provide you with detailed information on the steps you must undertake to become a certified Official.
The basic steps to becoming an official are:
- You will need to take part in a Level 1 officiating clinic where you will cover topics such as game duties, on-ice positioning, mechanics, and signals as well as go through the violations and rules of the game. Your skating skills will also be assessed.
- For information on when and where these clinics will take place over the course of the year, contact you Provincial/Territorial Association.
What will I need?
The clinic will provide you with a Ringette Canada crest, a rulebook/case book and a participants manual.
Other required items you will need are:
• Skates
• A whistle
• Black CSA approved helmet
• An official’s jersey
• Black pants
