“I have been playing ringette for 20 years and am currently in my tenth season with Calgary RATH. They have become my second family, my ultimate rocks and I’m proud of the moments I’ve shared with this team. I’ve also had the privilege and pride of wearing the maple leaf, playing with Team Canada at three World Ringette Championships. I love the way that ringette drives and motivates me. I love that every time I’m at the gym or on the ice, I have something to push for, something to fight for, and someone right behind me who wants it just as badly and is working just as hard. I am constantly inspired by the other athletes who I compete with at this level. They all make great sacrifices for the game, somehow find balance in the rest of their lives, and still find the time to accomplish amazing things outside of sports. The women who I am surrounded by are warriors. If you ask anyone who has ever really stuck with ringette, “why ringette?” they will all tell you that what sets it apart is the people. You fall in love with the community as much as you do the sport. Whether I’m playing or coaching, I’m always the first at the arena and the last one to leave and it’s only because I don’t want to miss a minute with my ringette family. I’ve made best friends out of rivals from coast to coast, and I’m proud that I get to play both with and against the best ringette has to offer.” – Bobbi Mattson (Calgary, AB)
