“I grew up in St. Albert, Alberta playing ringette, but I moved to Michigan after getting my degree and so I had to stop playing ringette. I started playing hockey instead, but when Team USA recruited me for the 2015 World Ringette Championships, I started promoting the sport in my area. We started with a Team USA training camp and a few ringette ice times for myself and the locals I also recruited for Team USA to practice. After Worlds, my husband and I started running weekly ringette drop-ins, open to all ages, skill levels and genders to come try ringette. The busier days when new people come out to try it and end up having a blast are the best. Almost everyone that comes out is a hockey player, so we get to watch them learn through trial and error which hockey strategies are applicable and which ones aren’t. Beyond the drop-ins, we began to host the Annual Mid-Michigan Ringette Tournament and we hope to continue to see it grow so that we can showcase this amazing sport more and more each year. Working with local youth hockey teams and also with experienced Canadian ringette teams that have traveled to us, I can say that we’ve made some great ringette memories here in Michigan already. Through ringette practices, fun weekends of ringette, competitive tournaments and Team USA tryouts and training camps, we are doing our best to promote ringette and build a strong community of players here.” – Brenda Rossetto (Midland, Michigan)
