2017 World Ringette Championships declared a True Sport event
Ottawa, Ontario – November 15, 2017 – In recognition of the belief that good sport can make a great difference, Ringette Canada has declared the 2017 World Ringette Championships a True Sport event. Ringette Canada and True Sport share a common goal – to inspire youth to practice values-based and principle-driven sport.
The event gets underway in Mississauga, Ontario on November 27. Seven countries will not only compete for world titles in the President’s, Junior and Sam Jacks divisions, but are also being urged to make their commitment to good sport official by joining True Sport.
“Ringette Canada continues to be a leader in the promotion of ethical literacy at the national level. The 2017 World Ringette Championships is an incredible opportunity for them to share their commitment to True Sport with sport enthusiasts from around the world,” said Karri Dawson, Executive Director of the True Sport Foundation. “When sport is values-based, we see benefits such as character development, stronger communities and increased opportunities for excellence – the kind of sport Canadians have told us they want.”
“We are very pleased to declare the 2017 World Ringette Championships a True Sport event,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director, Ringette Canada. “We will be hosting the True Sport Team Canada Fun Zone at the Hershey Centre, running a number of contests and reaching out to our ringette community through our social media networks to bring the True Sport Principles to life.”
True Sport is proud to support Ringette Canada as they continue to empower their athletes, coaches and officials to live the True Sport Principles on and off the ice.
