2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships declared a True Sport event
Ottawa, ON – March 26, 2019 – Ringette Canada today announced that the 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships has been declared a True Sport event. This means that the values of fairness, excellence, inclusion and fun will be at the heart of the championships. Athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to bring the True Sport Principles to life through their actions, thereby making a statement about the kind of sport they want to be a part of.
The event gets underway in Charlottetown and Summerside, PEI on April 7th and 45 teams from across the country will compete for national titles in the U16 and U19 divisions, as well as the National Ringette League championship.
True Sport is dedicated to the notion that good sport can make a great difference. The seven True Sport Principles are: Go for It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep it Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone and Give Back. Good sport happens when these seven principles are in play, in the right balance and proportion.
As a declared member, Ringette Canada is already committed to True Sport. By declaring the 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event, Ringette Canada aims to bring awareness to True Sport and show the Canadian sport community the culture of ringette and bring the value of good sport to ringette athletes, coaches, officials, associations and fans.
“We are very pleased to declare the 2019 Credit Union Canadian Ringette Championships a True Sport event,” said Natasha Johnston, Executive Director, Ringette Canada. “Both Ringette PEI and Ringette Canada are proud champions of the True Sport Movement and we encourage everyone involved in the event to live the True Sport principles, especially this year’s principle – Respect Others, which encourages everyone to win with dignity, lose with grace and respect all involved.”
“Ringette Canada’s continued commitment to values-based and principle-driven sport is a great example of how True Sport lives from the playground to the podium,” said Karri Dawson, Executive Director of the True Sport Foundation. “When sport is fair, inclusive, and fun, Canadians and their communities are able to reap the many benefits associated with a positive sport experience. Good luck to all the athletes who will be competing – we’ll be cheering you on as you pursue personal excellence.”
