2023 WORLD RINGETTE CHAMPIONSHIPS – Day 4

Calgary, Alberta – November 2, 2023 – We kicked off the day early here in Calgary with a plethora of U18 mini games. Our U18 development camp is running alongside the World Ringette Championships event here at WinSport in Calgary. The U18 games consisted of blended teams with athletes hailing from: Canada, the USA, Sweden, Finland, and the Czech Republic. The athletes and coaches combined to learn skills from one another and benefit from each country’s unique style of play. It was amazing to see the future of ringette on the ice working hard towards a common goal.

This evening’s game featured some top-level action from the President’s Pool and saw Sweden take on the USA. The US team have been flying high and are undefeated so far in the tournament.  Sweden is, of course, hoping to change that, and were looking for their first win of the tournament.

The USA came out strong and put a few points on the board early.  Sweden kept themselves in it, notching up 2 goals of their own before the end of the first quarter.  The US scored first in the 2nd quarter and then started to widen the gap. They finished the game with a last-minute buzzer beater to ease out the win 11-4.  The USA will now move on to the gold medal match in the President’s Pool on Saturday, Nov 4th.

Game MVPs were #44 from the USA, Isabella Koppens and #10 from Sweden, Sabah, Esmail.
