Returning to Ringette – June 5

As provincial governments and health authorities begin to lift pandemic restrictions, a few sports have started a slow, gradual return to play in some parts of the country.

So, what does that mean for ringette?

First, all domestic sanctioned ringette activities remain suspended.

Second, like all other sports in every part of the country, the return to activity will only occur when government and public health officials have announced that it is safe to do so.

Similarly, the decision to open a facility for ringette will be determined by the facility owner in consultation with public health authorities.

We know that some sports, particularly individual outdoor activities have resumed play. But that return to play is patient and prudent, consistent with the guidelines developed by authorities in each province and territory. Limited team sport activity is set to begin on a very limited basis in some places, but again under very strict guidelines from public health and government officials.

Rest assured that we are developing detailed plans so that we’re ready to go when the authorities give us the green light.

Ringette Canada and Provincial Ringette Associations expect to have comprehensive Return to Ringette guidelines ready for distribution before the end of June.

We continue to work closely with all Provincial Ringette Associations to build a pan-Canadian plan that ensures a consistent approach across the country.

It’s important to bear in mind that when our guidelines are released, the return to play will be phased in based on what is permitted at any given time by local and provincial health authorities. It will be gradual, cautious and methodical because we simply cannot put at risk the well-being of anyone involved in our sport. And, like all Canadians, we have an obligation to do everything possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We remain committed to re-opening access to the sport we all love so much, but only when the conditions are right, and only when we can minimize the risks.
