Take 5 with… Marjorie Legros

Take 5 minutes to get to know our officials supervisors, on-ice officials, shot clock operators, and more.

Our final installment of 2025 features Marjorie Legros, one of the on-ice officials at this years CRC.

Where did your officiating journey begin?

I’m from the South shore of Montreal and I am affiliated to the Boucherville’s ringette association. I started playing Ringette at the beginning of the year 2000 and have been officiating since 2009. I also have roughly 10 years of experience as an Official supervisor. I’ve held the title of Lead official in my association for a few years. I’ve also had the chance to coach a few teams. I had the opportunity to participate at multiple events during my officiating journey through all different levels. My first Canadian Championship experience was in 2017 as a Shot clock operator and in 2022 as an On-Ice Official.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being an official?

What’s rewarding for me is to make the game possible for the athletes. Without any officials, the players can’t play.

What does your role entail? What does a typical game look like for you?

I love to see the players make the sport shine through their creativity on the ice. That being said, I’m there to enforce the rules, to make sure that athletes can perform and play fairly.

What advice do you have for new officials beginning their careers?

Believe in yourself. We are a big family and we will always be there to support each other. We’re lucky to have experienced officials that are willing to help us and work with us through all stages and levels. Don’t let the negative comments affect your game.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2025 CRC?

I want to live this experience at its fullest. I consider myself privileged to be able to return to the Championship and reconnect with officials that come from all over the country. My favourite games are those where the stakes are at its highest. You can feel the player’s intensity on the ice as they are giving everything they have in them to reach their goal, which is to be the best.

What has been your most memorable experience officiating?

I have so many it’s hard for me to only choose one. I would say that all the events that I attended across Canada were all memorable as I bonded with other officials over the years. If I were to pick only one, I would say that I will always remember my first Gold Medal Final as an On-Ice Official in Dieppe.
