Team Canada selection camp to be held in Ottawa

Ottawa, ON – May 13, 2019 –Thirty-two of Canada’s top ringette athletes will gather this weekend in Ottawa in the hopes of securing a spot on Ringette Canada’s junior national team. Following the selection camp, which runs from May 16-20 at Carleton University in Ottawa, athletes moving on to the next phase of selection will be announced. They will then continue to train for the upcoming 2019 World Ringette Championships, with training camps being held in Sherwood Park, AB August 29-September 2 and Burnaby, BC October 10-14. The 2019 World Ringette Championships that will take place from November 25 to December 1, 2019 in Burnaby, BC.

“Our junior national team selection camp brings together our best U21 athletes in the country for a chance at securing a spot on our Team Canada roster,” said Stephanie Laurin, Ringette Canada’s Manager of High Performance and Athlete Services. “These athletes will be giving it everything they have and we are looking forward to providing them with a training environment that allows them to reach their goals. If you are in the area, come and see ringette at its finest.”

During the camp, there will be four inter-squad games that will be open to the public. All games will be held at the Carleton University Ice House (free admission):

Friday, May 17: 3-5pm
Saturday, May 18: 7-9pm
Sunday, May 19: 5-7pm
Monday, May 20: 9:30-11:30am

Lorrie Horne (Sherwood Park, AB) leads the junior national team as head coach, along with assistant coaches Chris Belan (Calgary, AB), Carrie Hartley (Ottawa, ON), Danielle Hildrebrand (Oakbank, MB), Heather Konkin (Edmonton, AB) and Jacinda Rolph (Stony Plain, AB). Melinda Krulicki (Red Deer, AB) is the team’s athletic therapist and Manon Bordeleau (Chicoutimi, QC) is the team manager.
