U16 and U19 teams advance to championship round, National Ringette League teams continue round robin play
London, Ontario – April 5, 2016 – The end of day two at the 2016 Canadian Ringette Championships saw teams advance to the championship and consolation rounds in the U16 and U19 divisions, while round-robin play continues in the National Ringette League division.
Manitoba, Québec and Rive Sud finished round-robin play undefeated in the U16 division. They will now advance to the championship round along with Mississauga, Calgary Blue, London, St. Albert Mission (AB), BVRA Angels (MB), Ontario, Edmonton Elite, Alberta and New Brunswick. Saskatchewan, Central Alberta Sting, British Columbia, Gloucester-Cumberland (ON), Elora-Fergus (ON), Clarence-Rockland (ON), Nova Scotia and Zone 5 Pack (AB) will now go on to compete in the consolation round.
Round-robin play also finished up in the U19 division, with Alberta and Guelph coming out undefeated. They will now advance to the championship round along with Calgary Red, Manitoba, Québec, Ontario, Eastman Flames (MB), Nepean Ravens, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, and Zone 5 Grit (AB). Richmond Hill, British Columbia, Edmonton Elite, Calgary Blue, London, St Albert Mission (AB) and Cambridge Turbos will go on to compete in the consolation round. Mississauga and BLL (QC) will meet tomorrow morning at 7:30 am to play a tie-breaking mini-game, with the winner advancing to the championship round and the loser moving to the consolation round.
In the National Ringette League (NRL) division, the Gloucester Devils are the only team left undefeated. They beat the Cambridge Turbos 5-4 and downed Calgary RATH 5-4. Cambridge Turbos, Montreal Mission and Ottawa Ice all sit at two wins and one loss each. Round-robin competition continues tomorrow.
Games are taking place at the Western Fair Sports Centre and Nichols Recreation Centre. The finals will be held at Western Fair. Competition continues all week and finals in all three divisions take place on Saturday, April 9th (U16 at 10:30, U19 at 12:30 and NRL at 14:30). All-stars and the NRL Annual Awards will be announced at the closing award ceremony on Saturday night.
